Initially the student did not present with any signs of overdose, however as the CSO continued to monitor the student, the student’s condition declined and the CSO recommended the student be evaluated by medical professionals. The student agreed, and American Medical Response (AMR) was requested. AMR paramedics evaluated the student and stated that they did not feel medical transport was necessary. The student agreed to stay with friends for the evening who would be able to call for assistance should it be needed again. The CSO and AMR cleared from the scene.

Case #: 220098
Date: 2022 03 19
Time: 0152
Description: Evidence of Drug Use / Cannabis Use or Possession
Location: Student Union

Notes: A CSO performing a lock up of the Student Union heard voices on the second floor balcony and opted to perform a complete walk through of the building to ensure all students exited the building. Upon arrival at the Beer Nation storage closet the CSO observed a commercial cannabis container, related paraphernalia, and Nitrous Oxide containers. The CSO photographed the items as they saw them before processing them. Before the CSO was able to collect the items, a student arrived and refused to allow the CSO to enter the space. When the CSO was finally able to gain access to the space, the cannabis and related items which had previously been in plain view were no longer there. When the CSO asked the student about the items, the student stated that they were unaware of the items to which the CSO was referring. The CSO then showed the student the photos that they had just taken of the items. The student then asked if they would be allowed to keep the items. The CSO relayed the college policy regarding cannabis on campus property. The student refused to surrender the items. The CSO requested the student’s ID, to which the student also initially declined, then changed their mind and provided their ID information to the CSO. The CSO secured the building after ensuring that all students had exited.

Case #: 220099

One of the individuals was visibly holding multiple bottles of juice and multiple candy bars. The CSO requested the individuals stop, but they kept walking away from the CSO, and at that point the individual holding the items began running. The CSO caught up with the two individuals who had continued walking toward the stairs to the first floor of the GCC. When the CSO asked the two if they could explain what the CSO had observed, the two stated that they did not know. The CSO requested the ID cards, which the individuals provided, confirming that one was a current student and the other was an alum. The CSOs eventually identified the third individual, who had been seen fleeing with the food items. Once finished speaking with the two individuals, the CSO was able to return to the Commons one candy bar which they had seen dropped.

CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
You can take the survey here:

Unlock Met expectations Getting a time frame for how long the wait for an unlock would be helpful. Sometimes it takes close to 20 minutes and it that's the case I'd rather wait in my car than outside of the building I'm locked out of.
