E-reserves in Moodle

requested through the Reed Library are made available through your Moodle course page. They provide an easy way for students to access assigned readings.

  • Request your e-reserves as early as possible! Reach out to the reserves team in the library with your request so they have time to prepare your reserves for the semester.
  • Please let Instructional Technology Services know that you are using e-reserves when you request a Moodle page by checking the appropriate box on the Moodle request form.

Benefits of using e-reserves

Instructional Technology Services strongly encourages all faculty to use e-reserves for course readings.

  • Library staff take care of all scanning and copyright clearance for requested reserves.
  • Library staff work with Disability & Accessibility Resources to ensure that e-reserves are accessible for the students in your class. If you choose to post readings not prepared by the library to Moodle, you are required to ensure that they meet your students' accessibility needs yourself.
  • E-reserves are easy to re-use in future semesters. Just let the reserves specialists know which content you plan to re-use when you request your e-reserves.
  • With enough lead time, the library reserves specialists may be able to add content to your e-reserves throughout the semester if your readings change.

Linking to e-reserves

If you prefer to list reading assignments for students elsewhere in your Moodle course page, you can add a link to readings in the e-reserves area to make them easier for students to find.

  • To copy the link address, hover over the linked text within the e-reserves entry. Right click or control+click, and select "Copy link" or "Copy link address" (wording will vary based on your browser). Use this link wherever you like on your Moodle course page.

  • Do not open the e-reserve content and copy the link from the address bar of your browser for linking elsewhere. These addresses may not work for your students.
