Student Technology Equipment Program (STEP)
What is STEP?
STEP makes technology available to students in need. For a non-refundable program fee of $50, approved applicants can borrow a laptop computer for the duration of an academic year. The laptop comes with built-in speakers, microphone, webcam, and is loaded with Microsoft Office and various other productivity software. STEP fees help pay for maintenance and replacement of equipment in the Student Technology Equipment Program.
In some circumstances, college emergency funds are made available to provide computer accessories to students in need.
STEP Eligibility
STEP is geared toward thesising seniors, returning students currently on financial aid, and those who do not otherwise have access to a computer that meets minimum specifications. Students who already have access to such a computer should not apply to STEP.
Requests will be prioritized to meet the greatest need. Students must work with CUS to troubleshoot existing computer problems and explore repair options before being approved for a STEP laptop.
STEP applicants promise they’ll be kind to borrowed equipment, and will return it on time and in good working condition. Equipment must be returned at the end of the loan term or upon graduation, whichever comes first.
If you are in need of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, or other disability accommodations, please reach out to us. We will work with you and Disability & Accessibility Resources on your accessibility needs.
